Llamas originate from South America and are a domesticated species of camelid. They are traditionally used for meat and to guard/protect other livestock.
Llamas are social animals and live in a herd. Llamas are pregnant for around 11.5 months and baby llamas are called cria. Adult llamas can weigh up to 200kg and can live for up to 25 years.
Here at Hillview, we currently have 3 llamas: Delilah, Darcy and Dandy.
Alpacas also originate from South America and are a domesticated species of camelid. They are traditionally bred to use their fleece.
Alpacas are social animals and live in a herd. Alpacas are pregnant for around 11.5 months and baby alpacas are called cria. Adult alpacas can weigh up to 84kg and can live for up to 20 years.
Here at Hillview, we currently have one alpaca called Macca Pacca (or Mac), who is waiting for his ladies to arrive.
Miniature Zebu are a domesticated cattle breed that originate from Asia and Africa and are recognisable from their hump on their shoulders.
They are one of around 75 domesticated breeds of zebu that were traditionally bred for meat and dairy but Miniature Zebu are now more commonly kept as pets.
Zebu are social animals and live in a herd. Zebu are pregnant for around 9 months. Adult zebu can weigh up to 272kg and 107cm tall. They can live for up to 20 years.
Here at Hillview, we currently have 1 zebu and are on the look out for a companion for him: our Zebu is called Zazu.
